Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A devastating incident unfolded this week in Maine, as a 6-year-old girl tragically lost her life due to head trauma sustained from a badminton racquet. The young girl, identified as Lucy Morgan from Stockholm, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a noontime accident on June 1 in Limerick, located approximately 30 miles west of Portland, according to Maine State Police.

The heart-wrenching incident occurred while Lucy and her siblings were playing badminton in the front yard of a lake cottage in Limerick. The errant shaft of the badminton racquet struck Lucy, leading to the catastrophic injury that ultimately claimed her life. The family’s father, Jesse Morgan, who serves as the pastor of worship and discipleship at Green Pond Bible Chapel in Newfoundland, New Jersey, shared details of the tragic event in a blog affiliated with the nondenominational institution.

According to Jesse Morgan’s account, the family had just finished lunch when they heard screams coming from the front of the cottage. A broken racquet had caused a sharp piece to enter Lucy’s skull while she was sitting on the sideline, resulting in severe injury. Despite being rushed to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center in Sanford and later airlifted to Maine Medical Center in Portland, Lucy’s condition continued to deteriorate.

Lucy suffered from hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy, a type of brain damage caused by oxygen deprivation following traumatic injury. The severity of the swelling and the initial trauma indicated that Lucy had likely experienced brain death, leading to the heartbreaking decision to declare her deceased on Wednesday.

The devastating loss deeply affected Lucy’s mother and her three siblings, including a 4-year-old boy, an 8-year-old girl, and a 10-year-old boy. The pastor described how the tragedy brought the family to their knees, but also highlighted the outpouring of support they received from relatives, church members, and the wider community.

Green Pond Bible Chapel will be hosting a funeral service for Lucy on June 15, providing an opportunity for loved ones to come together and celebrate her life. Despite the profound grief and sorrow, Jesse Morgan expressed his desire for Lucy’s story to be one of hope and inspiration to others, even in the face of unimaginable loss.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment with loved ones. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Morgan family during this difficult time as they navigate the pain of their loss and honour the memory of a beloved daughter and sister.
