Authorities in Alabama are still investigating a tragic robbery at a grocery store in Montgomery where three men lost their lives earlier this week.
The victim, George Elijah Jr., was at Tienda Los Hermanos grocery store on Tuesday evening when the incident occurred. His son, Mitchell “Holt” Elijah, shared that his father was there to visit the store owner and pick up some food for his dogs when the fatal shots were fired.
Reflecting on his father, Holt Elijah expressed, “He taught me everything. I could list countless memories and moments that we shared together.”
Tragically, George Elijah, along with Daniel Lopez and the store owner, Ramiro Lopez, lost their lives in the robbery. Holt Elijah mentioned that his father had frequented the store in the past and was on the phone with his brother when the shooting began.
The Elijah family, along with the Lopez family, are now grappling with the aftermath of this senseless act of violence. Holt Elijah highlighted the impact his father had on the Lopez family, stating, “He was involved in their family a lot.”
Alabama authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime. Central Alabama Crime Stoppers has also put forward a £5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the suspect/s involved in the shooting.
As the Elijah family prepares to bid farewell to George Elijah, funeral arrangements are being finalised. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with the funeral expenses, underscoring the community’s support during this difficult time.
In the wake of this tragedy, Holt Elijah emphasised the need for more love and compassion in the world. He questioned the senseless violence, stating, “People are taking lives that don’t need to be taken. Over what? What’s the purpose? There is no purpose.”
The grieving son added, “I’m trying to keep his dream going, you know? He wouldn’t want me to sit here and pout about it. He just wanted me to always be successful.”
