CALEDONIA, Wis. (WFRV) – Two 26-year-old Wisconsin men were taken into custody on Friday morning after deputies discovered a significant amount of narcotics inside their vehicle during a routine traffic stop.
According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy noticed an equipment violation on a vehicle traveling east on Wisconsin Highway 33 near Main Street Road in Caledonia shortly after 11:00 a.m.
Upon conducting a traffic stop and contacting the vehicle’s occupants, the deputy detected an odour of marijuana emanating from inside the car. A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several illegally controlled substances.
Charges and Arrests
The driver, identified as Dashaun A. Winslow of Madison, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbia County Jail on charges including Possession with Intent to Deliver Fentanyl, Possession of THC – Second Offense, Possession of Narcotic Drugs- Schedule 2, and Violation of Probation.
The passenger, identified as Desmond L. Watkins of Sun Prairie, was also arrested and transported to the Columbia County Jail on charges of Possession of Narcotic Drugs – Schedule 2, Possession of THC – Second Offense, Carrying a Concealed Knife, and Violation of Probation.
Seizure of Counterfeit Pills
During the traffic stop, over 80 counterfeit oxycodone blue M30 pills laced with fentanyl were seized by officials. This significant seizure highlights the ongoing issue of drug trafficking and substance abuse in the state.
The Wisconsin State Patrol provided assistance to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office during the operation, ensuring the safe arrest and transportation of the suspects.
