Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday night in unincorporated Lake Zurich, as an explosion destroyed a house in the Forest Lake community. The aftermath of the explosion has left one resident unaccounted for, but a body was discovered in the rubble. The deceased has been identified as 77-year-old Timothy Toczylowski, the resident of the destroyed home.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy, revealing injuries consistent with inhalation of combustion products. However, toxicology testing, including carbon monoxide levels, is still pending. The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation by various authorities, including the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigators, Lake Zurich Rural Fire Protection District, and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
The incident occurred on North Overhill Road, with emergency responders arriving at the scene around 8:30 p.m. on June 4, 2024. The house was completely leveled, and the body of an adult male was discovered in the rubble. The swift response of the authorities helped contain the fire, which was eventually brought under control by 9:44 p.m. that night.
The investigation into the cause of the explosion resumed on Wednesday morning, involving multiple agencies and fire departments. The neighborhood where the incident occurred lacked fire hydrants, but firefighters managed to connect to a hydrant located about 1700 feet southwest of the fire scene.
