CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – A woman and a juvenile were injured in a motorcycle crash in Cape Girardeau County, according to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred at 2:35 p.m. on Friday, June 7, when the driver of a 2023 Kawasaki Motorcycle was travelling southbound on County Road 635, located five miles north of Cape Girardeau.

The crash happened as the motorcycle veered off the right side of the road and flipped over, causing both the driver and passenger to be thrown from the vehicle.

The driver, identified as 29-year-old Kirsten L. Riehl from Cape Girardeau, sustained serious injuries and was taken by EMS to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for treatment. The passenger, a 7-year-old male, was also injured and was transported by ambulance to the same medical center for treatment of moderate injuries.

Authorities reported that the juvenile was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, while Riehl was not wearing one.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and is reminding all motorcyclists to wear appropriate safety gear while riding to prevent serious injuries.
