A 23-year-old woman has been arrested in Upstate New York after allegedly killing three of her roommates in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Alyssa J. Venable was taken into custody following a high-speed chase that ended in a crash. The incident occurred after three people, all in their 60s and 70s, were found dead in the house they shared with Venable in the Fredericksburg area.

Suspect sought since Tuesday

Venable had been sought by investigators since Tuesday night when the bodies of her roommates, Robert J. McGuire, Gregory S. Powell, and Carol Anne Reese, were discovered. The victims were found deceased from upper body trauma in their home on White Street Court near Fredericksburg.

Charged with second-degree murder

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has charged Venable with three counts of second-degree murder and using a firearm to commit a felony. The motive for the killings is still under investigation, with authorities withholding certain details of the incident.

High-speed chase and arrest

Following a tip-off from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police located Venable driving a 2009 Honda Civic on Interstate 86 in Angelica, New York. A high-speed chase ensued, reaching speeds of up to 100 mph before culminating in a crash in Avoca, New York. Venable was taken to a hospital for treatment and later held in a local jail. She appeared in a New York court where she waived her right to contest extradition to Virginia.

Investigation ongoing

Authorities are collaborating with New York State Police to gather evidence in the case. It is still unclear why Venable was in Upstate New York at the time of her arrest. Spotsylvania authorities are expected to travel to New York to bring Venable back to face charges.

Legal representation

It remains uncertain whether Venable has legal representation at this time. The investigation into the murders and the subsequent arrest is still in its early stages, with detectives working closely with law enforcement in both Virginia and New York.
