Montgomery County Police (MCPD) apprehended and charged a 19-year-old man on Tuesday for his involvement in an armed carjacking and a series of subsequent robberies. The suspect, identified as Sean Charles Wright IV from Potomac, faces charges of armed carjacking and two counts of armed robbery.

According to a press release issued by MCPD, the crime spree began on Tuesday morning when officers responded to an armed carjacking incident in the 7100 block of Democracy Blvd. at 8:02 a.m.

Initial investigations indicated that a man wearing a black Scarface t-shirt approached the victim, who was seated in his minivan, and entered the passenger seat. Allegedly, the suspect then lifted his shirt to reveal a possible handgun, demanding the victim to exit the vehicle and relinquish the keys.

The victim complied with the demands, and the suspect drove away in the stolen car.

Approximately an hour later, at 9:18 a.m., MCPD received another call regarding an armed robbery in the 100 block of Rollins Ave.

Further investigations revealed that the same man, later identified as Wright IV, entered a store, proceeded behind the counter, and demanded the employee to open the cash register. When the employee refused, the suspect allegedly grabbed cash from the counter and fled the scene.

Shortly after, at 9:25 a.m., a police officer responding to a separate call witnessed a man matching the description of the carjacking suspect fleeing from a 7-Eleven store in the 11500 block of Rockville Pike.

The officer approached the stolen minivan where Wright IV was attempting to escape. Despite a brief foot pursuit, the officer managed to apprehend the suspect.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspect had also robbed the 7-Eleven store he was seen exiting. Reports suggest that he assaulted an employee, demanded cash from the register, and fled the scene.

Following his arrest, Wright IV was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 5.
