Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The fiance of an Ohio art student who disappeared almost 13 years ago has entered a guilty plea for involuntary manslaughter. John Carter, aged 36, was initially charged with two counts of murder when he was taken into custody in March 2023. He now potentially faces a maximum of three years in prison, with his sentencing scheduled for July 18.

The charges against Carter relate to the August 2011 vanishing of Katelyn Markham, who was last spotted at her residence in Fairfield. At the time of her disappearance, Markham was nearing the completion of her graphic arts studies at the Art Institute of Ohio—Cincinnati. Carter had indicated that they were making plans to relocate to Colorado later that same year.

In 2013, skeletal remains were discovered in a wooded area in Cedar Grove, Indiana, around 20 miles (approximately 32 kilometers) west of Markham’s home in Fairfield. These remains were later verified as belonging to Katelyn Markham. Despite the confirmation of her identity, authorities were unable to determine the exact cause of her death, only classifying it as a homicide.

Prosecutors from Butler County have asserted that Carter was responsible for Markham’s demise through the infliction of physical violence and force.
