WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – A tragic incident unfolded on the morning of October 4 in Burke County, resulting in the loss of a life. A 59-year-old man, Levert Jackson, has been charged in connection with the fatal traffic accident.

The accident took place at approximately 6:40 a.m. on U.S. 25 at Hadden Pond Road, located north of Waynesboro, as reported by the Georgia State Patrol. Jackson faces charges of homicide by vehicle in the second degree, misdemeanor, and failure to stop at a stop sign.

Following the incident, Jackson was taken into custody and booked into the Burke County Detention Center on Friday. His bond has been set at $2,550.

According to the investigation conducted by troopers, a Cadillac Brougham was travelling north on U.S. 25 when it collided with the side of an 18-wheeler that was stationary across both northbound lanes. The report indicates that Jackson failed to yield to the Cadillac, leading to the tragic outcome.

Both drivers involved in the accident tested negative for alcohol, ruling out any impairment as a contributing factor. The victim, identified as 55-year-old Sandra Small Mincey, was pronounced dead at the scene by Coroner M. Bennett.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and adherence to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic outcomes in the future.
