Spotsylvania Woman Arrested in New York Following Police Chase

A 23-year-old woman from Spotsylvania County, Virginia, accused of murdering her three roommates was apprehended in New York on Thursday evening after a high-speed police pursuit that reached speeds of up to 100 mph.

Alyssa Jane Venable was taken into custody in Steuben County, New York, with the assistance of the United States Marshals Service and the New York State Police on June 6, according to a statement from the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities in New York spotted a 2009 Honda Civic, the vehicle Venable was known to drive, around 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. When they attempted to pull her over, Venable refused to stop, leading to a chase that escalated to speeds of 100 mph.

After deploying tire deflation devices, the Civic crashed, and Venable was arrested without incident. She was then taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the crash.

New York State Police confirmed that Venable will remain in the hospital until she is fit for extradition back to Virginia. Fortunately, no one else was injured in the pursuit or crash.

Accusations and Investigation

Venable stands accused of the murders of her three roommates, identified as 77-year-old Robert John McGuire, 60-year-old Gregory Scott Powell, and 65-year-old Carol Anne Reese, all residents of Spotsylvania.

The investigation began after a welfare check was conducted at a residence in the 10500 block of White Street on Tuesday, June 4. Deputies discovered the lifeless bodies of the victims, each showing signs of upper body trauma.

Following the discovery, Venable was quickly identified as a suspect, leading to the issuance of a warrant for her arrest. She faces charges of three counts of second-degree murder and one count of using a firearm while committing a felony.
