Accident – Death – Obituary News :

ELKTON — A teacher from Rising Sun High School with 30 years of experience in education has been given a suspended six-month sentence and placed on 15 months of supervised probation after pleading guilty to assaulting a 13-year-old boy who played a prank on him at his home.

The defendant, Dylan M. Aiman, 54, from Rising Sun, admitted to second-degree assault, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. Other charges of reckless endangerment and false imprisonment were dropped as part of the plea deal.

Cecil County District Court Administrative Judge Bonnie G. Schneider denied a request for probation-before-judgement, which would have kept the conviction off Aiman’s record. This decision could impact his future employment with Cecil County Public Schools.

Assistant State’s Attorney Joseph Verratti did not object to Aiman receiving probation-before-judgement, but the judge ruled against it citing Aiman’s previous conviction for failure to obey a peace order in 2012.

Aiman, who is currently on administrative leave from his teaching position, was arrested after a prank involving the 13-year-old boy and a friend at his residence. Prosecutors reported that Aiman chased the boys, grabbed one by the shirt, lifted him up, and kneed him in the ribs.

Background of the Incident

The incident occurred on a Saturday evening when the boys rang Aiman’s doorbell and ran away in a prank known as “ding dong ditch.” Aiman caught the boys and made them wait on his porch while he called the police to report the harassment.

Responding officers were informed by Aiman that he had restrained the boys until their parents arrived. However, the aggressive manner in which he handled the situation led to charges being filed against him.

Sentencing and Apologies

During sentencing, Aiman expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that he had overreacted. His defence lawyer highlighted his unblemished record as an educator and advocated for a resolution that would allow him to continue his career.

Aiman’s wife also spoke in his defence, attributing his actions to years of harassment their family had faced in the community. She described the incident as an isolated event that pushed her husband to his limit.

Aiman, a father of six, apologised to the victims, their families, and his own family, expressing his dedication to providing a positive experience for students both in the classroom and on the sports field.

Despite the sentencing, Aiman’s future in education remains uncertain as the school system evaluates the situation.

Impact on the Community

The parents of the boys involved expressed concern over Aiman’s behaviour, questioning his suitability as a teacher and role model for children. They highlighted the impact the incident had on their sons and the need for accountability.

The incident has raised questions about the safety of schools and the behaviour expected from educators, prompting discussions on appropriate responses to harassment and pranks in the community.

As Aiman navigates the consequences of his actions, the community reflects on the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect in interactions with students and the public.
