Accident – Death – Obituary News :

JOLIET — Almost every year, the Joliet Police Department and the Joliet Fire Department are called to investigate deaths along the deep and dangerous Des Plaines River canal. On April 19, the Joliet Fire Department recovered the body of missing 37-year-old resident Robert Long.

In March, the body of Deshawn J. Green, a 37-year-old Joliet man, was found at the Brandon Road Lock and Dam in Joliet Township. Concerns have been raised by grieving mothers at Joliet City Council meetings, suggesting a potential serial killer targeting young Black men by throwing them into the river.

Mothers Demand Answers

Minnie Heath, mother of 2021 Joliet canal drowning victim Anthony Dunn, has been vocal about her suspicions of a serial killer in Joliet. She believes that her son’s death, along with the case of missing Crest Hill resident Wendy Gessing, point to a pattern of foul play.

Heath’s concerns have led to a public safety open forum being convened by the Joliet Police Department to address community fears and discuss measures being taken to address crime in the area.

Public Safety Open Forum

The Joliet Police Department announced that a public safety open forum will take place on June 26 at the Billie Limacher Bicentennial Park. Police Chief Bill Evans emphasized the importance of exchanging accurate information and addressing residents’ concerns.

During the forum, the police will discuss recent incidents along the Des Plaines River, including drownings and missing persons cases. Chief Evans highlighted the need for improved safety measures, such as installing more signs and cameras along the riverfront.

Community Engagement

Chief Evans expressed his desire for the public safety open forum to become an annual event, fostering a dialogue between the police department and the community. The forum will also focus on presenting crime statistics and success stories within the Joliet Police Department.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the forum and provide feedback on community safety concerns. Chief Evans emphasized that there is still work to be done in ensuring the safety and well-being of Joliet residents.
