ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — An Albany teenager is facing a rape charge after an alleged assault. The incident, which took place on May 18, involved the use of a handgun for intimidation during the assault. The 17-year-old suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed due to his age, was identified by Albany police.

Following the sexual assault report, Albany police conducted an investigation that led to the execution of a search warrant at a residence on the 500-block of Lark Drive on June 5. During the search, authorities discovered four handguns, two of which were loaded. The weapons were seized as evidence, and multiple individuals, including the 17-year-old sexual assault suspect, were taken into custody.

Charges and Legal Proceedings

The 17-year-old suspect was charged with multiple offences, including one count of rape in the first degree, one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, one count of menacing in the second degree, and five counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. He was arraigned and subsequently sent to a juvenile facility.

In addition to the primary suspect, several others were also arrested in connection with the weapons found during the investigation:

A 15-year-old girl faced charges of five counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.

Chyna Dowdell, 19, of Albany, was charged with the same offence and was remanded to Albany County Jail on $20,000 bail.

Shaheim Smith, 22, of Albany, was also charged with five counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and sent to Albany County Jail on $40,000 bail.

Octavia Smith, 40, of Albany, faced charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. She was arraigned and sent to Albany County Jail.
