Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The city of Malibu has filed a petition with a federal appeals court in an effort to address the negative health impacts of aircraft noise caused by new flight paths at Los Angeles International Airport, city officials announced on Thursday.

Malibu Mayor Steve Uhring expressed the importance of peace and quiet for the community’s health and wellness, stating that residents and wildlife in the Santa Monica Mountains are heavily affected by aircraft noise.

According to officials, three specific flight paths have been identified as causing significant noise disturbances in Malibu during takeoff and landing.

The city’s attorneys are seeking to overturn a decision by the Federal Aviation Administration on February 20, 2024, which would exclude the new flight paths from further environmental assessments.

Malibu is aiming to engage in discussions with the FAA regarding the local impacts of these flight paths and the urgency of addressing the issue. The city hopes to collaborate with the FAA to develop flight procedures that would mitigate the noise impacts on the community.

While litigation alone may not achieve these goals, Malibu is optimistic that the prospect of a review by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals will encourage aviation regulators to engage in constructive dialogue and find mutually beneficial solutions.
