On 05/29/24, the Fulton Police department initiated an investigation at the Fulton Junior High School following an allegation of child abuse. The incident involved a school employee, identified as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in a special education room, who was reported to have slapped a 12-year-old disabled student across the face.

Upon learning of the incident, school administration conducted its own inquiry, uncovering additional concerns regarding the same employee.

The police investigation confirmed the initial report of the employee slapping the child. It also revealed that the employee was assigned to a different 14-year-old disabled student in the same room, who required constant supervision for airway management issues.

Multiple witnesses testified that throughout the school year, the LPN had repeatedly placed a cloth over the second student’s head, covering his eyes, nose, and mouth during episodes of coughing and vomiting. It was also alleged that the defendant left the student unsupervised for extended periods while at the school.

On 06/05/24, Shauna J. Pople, a 42-year-old resident of Sterling, surrendered herself to the Fulton Police Department for arrest. She faces the following charges:

Charges:

  • 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent/Physically Disabled Person 1st Degree – Class E Felony
  • 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of A Child – Class A Misdemeanor
  • 1 count of Harassment in the Second Degree – Violation

Pople was held pending arraignment in Fulton City Court. Individuals with additional information about this case are urged to contact Sgt. Lucas Hollenbeck at (315) 592-3426.
