The scuffle turned fatal for Singh, who succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. The Meharban police swiftly took action and arrested a woman, identified as Amarjeet Kaur, on murder charges. However, other suspects involved in the incident are currently on the run.
The sequence of events leading to the unfortunate demise of Singh unfolded when a dispute erupted between him and his neighbours regarding the overflowing sewage water in the street, which was causing a nuisance for the residents. Singh, in an attempt to resolve the issue, was trying to clear the choked sewerage line when a confrontation ensued with one of his neighbours. Allegations were made that Singh was deliberately directing the sewage water towards the neighbour’s house, leading to a heated argument.
According to the statement given by Sarabjeet Kaur, the victim’s daughter, the situation escalated quickly as the neighbour physically attacked Singh. Subsequently, Singh collapsed on the street, prompting his family members to rush him to the hospital. Tragically, Singh could not survive his injuries and passed away on Tuesday.
The Meharban police have taken swift action in response to the incident, filing a First Information Report (FIR) based on Sarabjeet Kaur’s statement. The FIR charges the arrested suspect, Amarjeet Kaur, along with several other individuals, including her husband Jagdish, their son Bindri, and others who are currently at large. The police have invoked sections 302 (murder), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) in the case.
Inspector Harjinder Singh, the Station-House Officer (SHO) overseeing the investigation, has stated that the police are actively pursuing the remaining suspects involved in the incident. Additionally, the authorities are looking into the possibility of any underlying motives or past grievances that may have contributed to the fatal altercation.
