Dana Nino Gonzalez : “Tragic Loss: 11-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Alameda Creek on Memorial Day”

11-year-old Dana Nino Gonzalez was identified as the victim who tragically lost her life in the Alameda Creek drowning incident on May 27.

FREMONT, Calif. – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the 11-year-old girl who tragically drowned in Alameda Creek on Memorial Day.

Alameda County Sheriff’s Office released a statement on social media on Tuesday evening, revealing that Dana Nino Gonzalez lost her life in the creek, located adjacent to Niles Canyon Road, north of Mission Boulevard just before 6 p.m.

Officials stated that the young girl became trapped against the flow control structure. Fremont Police Department officers quickly responded to the scene and witnessed members of the community attempting to rescue the child from the water. The officers bravely entered the water to assist in the rescue effort, despite the presence of a hole in the flow control structure. The fire department also arrived on the scene to provide support.

Despite the efforts of the first responders, Dana was ultimately pulled from the creek but tragically succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The sheriff’s office is leading the investigation into this heartbreaking incident.

“This is a truly tragic event that has deeply saddened us. We urge the public to take precautions when engaging in warm-weather activities near bodies of water. Always pay attention to posted warning and caution signs, create a safety plan, wear appropriate safety gear such as a life jacket, never swim alone, and refrain from entering the water if you are not a confident swimmer or are unfamiliar with the weather and water conditions,” the sheriff’s office emphasised in their statement.

Temperatures are forecasted to remain high on Wednesday as much of the Bay Area is currently in the midst of a midweek heatwave.
