A woman has been charged with aggravated murder after allegedly brutally stabbing and killing a 3-year-old child outside a grocery store in Ohio. Bionca Ellis, aged 32, was arraigned on Tuesday and a bond of $1 million was set, as reported by FOX 8.
The tragic incident took place on Monday, June 3, as the child, identified as Julian Wood, and his mother, 38-year-old Margot Wood, were leaving a grocery store. A woman dressed in all black, believed to be Ellis, suddenly attacked them with a kitchen knife, causing serious injuries.
Ellis, who was reportedly inside the grocery store, followed the mother and son to the parking lot before launching her vicious assault. Julian sustained stab wounds to the face and back, while Margot was stabbed in the shoulder. The entire attack lasted only a few seconds, according to Det. Sgt. Matt Beck of FOX 8.
Witnesses immediately called 9-1-1, leading to the swift arrest of Ellis, who was apprehended while still holding the weapon. Both victims were rushed to the hospital, but tragically, Julian succumbed to his injuries, while Margot survived with non-life threatening wounds.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Ellis had obtained the knife from a nearby store before targeting the mother and child. While Margot is expected to physically recover, the psychological impact of the ordeal will linger for a lifetime, as per police statements to FOX 8.
Authorities confirmed that the attack appeared to be random, with no prior interactions between the victims and Ellis. Despite her lack of violent crime history, Ellis had prior run-ins with the law, including a 2023 arrest for petty theft and a recent probation violation arrest.
