Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Authorities in North Olmsted, Ohio, were left stunned after a woman with no prior history of violent crime stabbed and killed a 3-year-old boy outside a grocery store in a random and unprovoked attack.

According to Detective Sergeant Matthew Beck, the attacker was identified as 32-year-old Bionca Ellis of Cleveland. The incident took place on Monday afternoon and left the community in shock.

Unprovoked and Random Attack

The investigation revealed that Ellis obtained a kitchen knife from a thrift store operated by the Volunteers of America at around 3 p.m. She then proceeded to the Giant Eagle grocery store where she encountered 38-year-old Margot Wood and her son Julian Wood of North Olmsted.

Reports suggest that Ellis followed the mother and son outside of the store and launched a brutal attack. She stabbed the young boy in the head and back, while also injuring the mother on her shoulder.

Authorities acted swiftly, providing first aid to both victims before transporting them to St. John Medical Center. Tragically, Julian Wood was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Arrest and Charges

Police were able to apprehend Ellis as she was walking towards Dover Center Road while still clutching the knife used in the attack. She was detained without incident and subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated murder.

Detective Beck emphasized that the mother and child had no prior interactions with Ellis and that the attack was completely random and senseless.

Community Outpouring and Legal Proceedings

North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones expressed her condolences for the grieving family, stating, “To lose their youngest child in such a violent and senseless manner is absolutely heartbreaking. We are all terribly sorry for their loss and I ask everyone to keep them in thought and prayer.”

Bond was set at $1 million for Ellis, with additional charges expected to be filed following review by a Cuyahoga County Grand Jury. Despite her lack of prior violent offenses, Ellis had a previous arrest in May for theft from a Walmart in Florida.

Continued Investigation and Healing

The tragic incident comes less than a year after a murder-suicide involving a divorced couple occurred at the same store, further shaking the community.

The mother is expected to recover from her non-life-threatening injuries, but the psychological impact of the attack on the family and the community at large is immeasurable.

As authorities continue their investigation, the North Olmsted community seeks to heal and move forward from this senseless act of violence.
