Springfield, Mass. – A tragic incident unfolded on Marion Street in Springfield, resulting in the deaths of a wife and her daughter. The husband has been arrested in connection with the deadly stabbing.
Authorities were alerted to a domestic disturbance on Marion Street at approximately 11:25 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, police officers found two women and a man with stab wounds. Tragically, both women succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the man was rushed to Baystate Medical Center for treatment of serious wounds.
The victims have been identified by the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office as 39-year-old Ruwaida Salamat, the suspect’s wife, and 19-year-old Nour Al Kherat, his daughter, both of Springfield.
The suspect, Osamah Al Kherat, was taken into custody and appeared in Springfield District Court on Monday. He faces two charges of murder and one count of armed assault to murder. A plea of not guilty was entered on his behalf, and he will remain in custody without bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 17.
The Springfield Homicide Unit, along with the Hampden DA’s office, is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
