Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a tragic incident that shook the University of Virginia community, a shooting in 2022 resulted in the deaths of three football players and left two students wounded. The university has now reached a $9 million settlement to compensate the victims and their families.

The settlement, confirmed by attorney Kimberly Wald, includes $2 million for each of the families of the three slain football players and $3 million for the two injured students, Marlee Morgan and football player Mike Hollins.

The shooting, carried out by former UVA student and football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., occurred when Jones Jr. and his teammates returned to campus on a charter bus. Jones Jr. allegedly began shooting near a parking garage, leading to a 12-hour lockdown on campus.

The three football players who lost their lives in the shooting were identified as Lavel Davis Jr., Devin Chandler, and D’Sean Perry.

Following the tragic event, UVA leaders requested an investigation into the school’s safety policies, response to the shooting, and any prior knowledge of a potential threat posed by Jones Jr. It was revealed that Jones Jr. had been on the radar of the threat assessment team at UVA.

Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. has been charged with aggravated murder and is set to stand trial in January.

This settlement serves as a somber reminder of the impact of gun violence on college campuses and the importance of maintaining strong safety measures to protect students and faculty.

We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and hope that this settlement brings them some measure of comfort and closure.
