TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman had a harrowing experience last week when she discovered an escaped inmate inside her vehicle.
Escaped Inmate Found in Woman’s Car
The incident unfolded shortly after 4:40 a.m. when the Lady Lake Police Department received a report of a vehicle burglary in progress. The woman, upon hearing the alarm of her BMW go off, went to investigate and found Jesse Hall, 31, inside her car. Hall reportedly grabbed her arm before she managed to break free and retreat back into her home, where she armed herself while waiting for authorities to arrive.
Arrest and Surrender
Upon being discovered near the BMW, Hall fled the scene but was apprehended by officers who held him at gunpoint. Body camera footage captured the moment of his arrest, during which he questioned the reason for the police being called. The woman, who was visibly distraught, informed officials that the car alarm had been triggered by her neighbour’s cats.
Discovery of Key Fob and Cellphone
During a search of Hall, a key fob resembling a Taser was found on his person, which was later confirmed to belong to the woman. Additionally, a black Nokia cellphone, not belonging to the woman, was discovered in the car. Hall claimed ownership of the phone, stating that it had received calls from someone named “Joe DiBlasi.” He further explained that he was in the car due to an incident involving a woman from the neighbourhood.
Identification and Criminal Record
Initially providing a false name of “Jess Hillman,” Hall’s true identity as Jesse James Hall was confirmed through fingerprint scanning. It was revealed that Hall had escaped from an Orlando prison on May 22 and was serving a seven-year sentence for grand theft auto and drug-related offences dating back to 2019. Subsequently, Hall was taken into custody at Lake County Jail without bond.
