NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) – A heartbreaking incident unfolded at a Giant Eagle store in North Olmsted, Ohio, as a 3-year-old boy, identified as Julian Wood, succumbed to his injuries after being stabbed. The Cuyahoga County medical examiner confirmed the tragic news.
The harrowing event took place in the parking lot of the grocery store located at the 27200 block of Lorain Road, occurring just after 3 p.m. on a Monday afternoon. In addition to the young victim, the child’s mother also fell victim to the violent attack.
Upon their arrival at the scene, North Olmsted police officers were provided with a description of the suspect. Captain Eric Morgan revealed that several officers swiftly took the suspect into custody, while others tended to the victims, providing crucial first aid.
Both Julian and his mother were promptly transported to St. John Medical Center by emergency medical services. Tragically, the young boy could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries. As of now, there is no update on the mother’s condition.
The suspect in this heinous crime has been identified as 32-year-old Bionca Ellis, hailing from Cleveland.
Expressing condolences, North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones conveyed, “Our hearts go out to the two victims of what appears to be a random act of violence.” In response, Giant Eagle issued a statement affirming cooperation with authorities as the primary source of information.
This distressing incident echoes a previous tragedy at the same Giant Eagle store in June 2023, where a murder-suicide occurred.
Court records reveal that Ellis had a prior legal entanglement in 2023, involving theft from a North Olmsted Walmart, resulting in a conviction for unauthorized use of property.
