Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A Red Oak resident found himself in hot water early Tuesday morning after a brief chase with law enforcement.

The Red Oak Police Department reported that the incident unfolded shortly after midnight when officers tried to pull over a vehicle for a routine traffic violation. However, instead of stopping, the driver accelerated and attempted to evade the authorities by heading northbound on Broadway. The vehicle then sped north on Highway 48, reaching speeds of up to 105 miles per hour, before turning west onto 130th Street and eventually ending up in a private residence. In a desperate attempt to flee, the driver crashed through two cattle gates and got stuck in the mud of a cattle lot.

Despite initial resistance, the driver, identified as 39-year-old Michael Scott Stafford, eventually complied with police orders to exit the vehicle. Stafford was subsequently charged with eluding at speeds exceeding 25 miles per hour, a class D felony. He was taken into custody and held at the Montgomery County Jail on a $5,000 bond.

The Red Oak Police Department received support from various law enforcement agencies during the pursuit, including the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and K9 Unit, Iowa State Patrol, as well as the sheriff’s offices of Pottawattamie and Mills County. The Red Oak Fire Department and K9 “Bane” also assisted in the operation.
