In a late-night operation on Monday, the Huntington Police Department (HPD) successfully apprehended a man following an intense standoff in Huntington, Indiana.

The incident began when HPD received a tip-off regarding the presence of a man wanted on outstanding arrest warrants from Allen County. The information was relayed to dispatch just after 9:30 p.m. on Monday, June 3.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to a Huntington apartment located at the intersection of Roche and Guilford Streets, in close proximity to General Slack Park.

Upon reaching the scene, HPD officers encountered a man, later identified as 33-year-old Nathan Lee Fugate, who threatened to open fire if they attempted to enter the premises. It was later revealed that the apartment, where Fugate had barricaded himself, was actually vacant and up for rent.

Following Fugate’s hostile response, HPD called for SWAT assistance from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office around 10:45 p.m. A tense standoff ensued, lasting for over four hours until Fugate was finally subdued and taken into custody at around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4. He was subsequently transported to Parkview Huntington Hospital for medical evaluation.

As of now, no formal charges have been announced in connection with the incident, as the investigation remains ongoing.
