Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 44-year-old woman in San Bernardino County has been arrested on child abuse charges after allegedly leaving her three young children alone for hours while she smoked cocaine at another location. The incident unfolded on May 31 when deputies from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted a welfare check at a short-term rental in Big Bear City.

During the welfare check, deputies discovered that the woman, identified as Marinda Montanez, had left her children, including her 8-year-old daughter, alone for approximately five hours. An incident report was filed and forwarded to Child and Family Services for further investigation.

The situation took a disturbing turn on June 1 when deputies were called to Montanez’s home in Fawnskin after receiving reports of neglected dogs on the property. Upon arrival, authorities found around 50 dogs left in cages in the heat without food. Montanez claimed to be the caretaker for the animals, but most of the dogs were seized by San Bernardino County Animal Control.

Montanez was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and later released on a citation. However, just hours after her release, investigators were called back to her home following allegations of neglect towards her 8-year-old daughter. The child was taken to Big Bear Valley Community Hospital for treatment of unspecified wounds and later released.

Subsequent investigations revealed that Montanez had left her three children alone on May 31 to smoke cocaine in Victorville. As a result, her children were removed from her care and placed with Child and Family Services. Montanez was arrested on charges of child abuse and neglect and is currently held at the West Valley Detention Center on $100,000 bail.

She is scheduled to appear in court on June 4. Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact SBSD Detective Casillas at 909-866-0105. Those who wish to remain anonymous can provide tips through the WeTip Hotline at 800-782-7463 or online at www.wetip.com.
