FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 16-year-old girl, who is believed to be a runaway from Chesterfield County, has been apprehended and is now facing multiple charges, including hit and run, following a dramatic high-speed pursuit that culminated in a crash in Fredericksburg.

The incident unfolded late on Friday night when 1st Sgt. A.I. Assur observed a Toyota RAV4 speeding at 91 mph on Kings Highway near Sherwood Forest Farm Lane, well above the 55 mph speed limit. Assur attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver of the RAV4 refused to stop and instead accelerated, initiating a dangerous high-speed chase.

As the pursuit continued, the driver of the RAV4 turned off the headlights and took an exit towards Fredericksburg, almost losing control of the vehicle in the process.

Authorities were quickly alerted about the situation, with both the Virginia State Police and the Fredericksburg Police Department joining in the pursuit. The driver of the RAV4 continued to drive recklessly, overtaking other vehicles by using the shoulder of the road.

At one point, the RAV4 ran a red light and narrowly avoided colliding with another vehicle. However, at the intersection of Woodlyn Drive, the RAV4 did collide with another vehicle. Despite the damage sustained, the driver managed to drive the RAV4 for another 75 yards before coming to a stop, bringing the pursuit to an end.

The driver, identified as a 16-year-old girl, surrendered to Sgt. Assur. It was later revealed that the Chesterfield Police were in the process of reporting her as a runaway. Criminal complaints for felony eluding and reckless driving have been filed against the driver, who is currently being held at the Juvenile Detention Center. Additional charges related to the hit and run are expected to be filed by the Virginia State Police, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
