ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – Authorities have identified four teenagers as suspects in the investigation of a racial slur that was displayed on a pedestrian bridge near Century High School in Rochester on April 14. The slur was spelled out using plastic cups on East Circle Drive, prompting outrage and concern in the community.

Charges have been referred to the Olmsted County Attorney for three 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old in connection with the incident. Due to their age, Minnesota State Statutes only allow the release of the suspects’ ages, as they are all under 18 years old.

The offensive display was first reported by a passerby on April 14, leading to an investigation by the Rochester Police Department (RPD). Jim Franklin, a spokesperson for the RPD, expressed the department’s commitment to addressing such incidents seriously.

RPD is deeply committed to addressing incidents that impact the community like this very seriously. Racism, language that perpetuates hate, and all prejudice contradict the values of the City. We hope the investigation’s conclusion brings healing and closure to our community.
