Authorities in Bridgeport, W.Va. are reaching out to the public for assistance in identifying a woman who tragically lost her life in a fatal tractor-trailer crash 38 years ago. The incident took place on Pennsylvania Route 119 in Springhill Township, Fayette County, just north of the West Virginia state line, in the early hours of May 2, 1986.

The unidentified woman was a passenger in the tractor-trailer at the time of the crash. She had no form of identification on her, leading investigators to believe she may have been a hitchhiker. Descriptions provided by the Pennsylvania State Police suggest that she was likely between the ages of 30 and 45, with brown eyes, medium-length brown hair, standing at 5 feet 4 inches tall, and weighing around 170 pounds.

Reports from the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System indicate that the woman was dressed in jeans, a t-shirt, and white sneakers, and was carrying $333 in cash along with a pack of Marlboro cigarettes.

Tragically, the driver of the tractor-trailer also lost his life in the crash. Hailing from Georgia, the driver’s family had no knowledge of the woman’s identity or connection to their loved one.

The driver’s intended destination was Richmond, Kentucky, with his journey beginning in Sparrow’s Point, Maryland. Investigators have been unable to determine why he was in the vicinity of the crash site, as there were no scheduled stops along his route. It is worth noting that the woman was not present with the driver when he departed from Sparrow’s Point.
