Residents of Aku in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State are reeling with anger and grief following the brutal killing of a farmer, Mr Emma Nnadi. The tragic incident occurred over the weekend when Nnadi courageously tried to rescue a 13-year-old girl from being gang-raped by Fulani herdsmen.
The shocking news was confirmed by a community leader, Agu Chineme, who expressed the community’s outrage at the senseless violence inflicted by the herdsmen. The incident took place at Ugwu-Uvuru, a farm settlement in Uzo-Uwani, a neighbouring local government area, but both the young girl and the deceased hailed from Aku in Igbo-Etiti.
The 13-year-old victim, a recent primary school graduate, was subjected to a horrific ordeal at the hands of two armed Fulani men while she was working on her family’s farm. Despite her trembling voice and physical scars from the assault, she bravely recounted the harrowing experience.
Tragically, Emma Nnadi lost his life in a valiant attempt to protect the young girl from the ruthless attackers. The Fulani herdsmen callously ignored his pleas and continued their heinous act, even as Emma lay lifeless from a gunshot wound.
The Aku community is demanding justice for the heinous crime that has claimed the lives of several of its members at the hands of these killer herdsmen. They are calling for immediate action to address the escalating violence and insecurity perpetuated by the Fulani herders in the region.
As tensions mount, local leaders are urging authorities to implement increased security measures and ensure accountability for the perpetrators. Emma Nnadi’s heroic sacrifice will be remembered as a symbol of the community’s quest for peace, justice, and security.
