Accident – Death – Obituary News : A 23-year-old Indian student has gone missing in California, United States, sparking a search effort by the police and the public to locate her. Nitheesha Kandula, a student at California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB), was last seen on May 28 in Los Angeles and was reported missing on May 30.

The CSUSB Chief of Police, John Guttierez, issued a statement on Sunday, urging anyone with information on Kandula’s whereabouts to come forward. The police have asked for assistance from the public, stating, “#MissingPersonAlert: California State University, San Bernardino Police along with our partners in #LAPD, is asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of @CSUSBNews Nitheesha Kandula, to contact us at: (909) 537-5165.”

Describing Kandhula as 5 feet 6 inches tall and approximately 160 pounds (72.5 kgs) in weight, the police mentioned that she has black hair and black eyes. It is believed that she may have been driving a 2021 Toyota Corolla with a California license plate, although the color of the vehicle is not known.

The recent disappearance of Kandula adds to a series of cases involving Indian-origin students in the United States. Last month, Rupesh Chandra Chintakind, a 26-year-old Indian student, went missing in Chicago. In April, a 25-year-old Indian student who had been missing since March was found dead in Cleveland.

The safety of Indian students in the US has come under scrutiny following these incidents. Mohamad Abdul Arfath, who had come to the US from Hyderabad to pursue a Master’s in IT, was found dead in Cleveland last year. In another tragic incident, Amarnath Ghosh, a 34-year-old classical dancer, was shot dead in St. Louis, Missouri.

The string of incidents involving Indian students in the US has raised concerns about their safety and security in the country. Authorities are urging anyone with information about Nitheesha Kandula’s whereabouts to contact the CSUSB Police Department at (909) 538-7777 or the LAPD’s Southwest Division at (213) 485-2582.

As the search for Kandula continues, the Indian community in the US and abroad remains vigilant and concerned about the well-being of Indian students studying overseas. The police are working diligently to locate Kandula and ensure her safe return home.
