Police apprehended a teenager on Sunday night in connection with the assault of a traffic police officer in Kasarani. The incident, captured on camera and widely circulated on social media, occurred along Kamiti Road in Nairobi.
The suspect, identified as Ian Njoroge, was apprehended at his hideout in Kayole estate. Authorities have stated that the 19-year-old will face charges of attempted murder and other related offences.
The injured traffic officer is currently receiving treatment at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital. Reports from law enforcement indicate that the suspect wielded a sword during the attack.
According to the police account of the incident, the officer was attempting to escort the suspect to Kasarani Police Station for a traffic violation. When the suspect tried to flee in his vehicle, he collided with the kerb, becoming stuck.
As the officer approached to clear the road, the suspect brandished a sword from under his seat. The officer exited the vehicle for his safety, at which point the suspect began physically assaulting him.
During the altercation, the suspect allegedly stole the officer’s phone battery. An individual who was present in the suspect’s vehicle at the time of the incident has also been taken into police custody.
Arrest and Investigation Details
A police source involved in the investigation revealed that the suspect was apprehended in the Jacaranda area while making plans to relocate. It is believed that the suspect was aware of the charges against him and sought to evade law enforcement.
“He knew he was wanted and had contacted a friend to help him move to Jacaranda estate from his Balozi estate,” the source disclosed.
