Over 200 residents of Berekum East in the Bono Region are currently on a manhunt for a woman identified as Elizabeth Akwah, 43, who is alleged to have posed as a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officer with the Ghana Police Service.

Reports by Rainbow Radio indicate that Elizabeth Akwah arrived in Berekum East and falsely claimed to be a CID official from the headquarters assigned to investigate a recent crime in the area. The crime in question involved a man accused of murdering his two-year-old son.

Kwame, the regional correspondent for Rainbow Radio, reported on June 1, that Elizabeth further announced that her mother operated a savings and loans company, offering to assist residents in need of financial support.

She managed to gather about 200 residents who were interested in securing loans and registered them for the disbursement of the loans. However, after collecting money from the residents, Elizabeth reportedly had a confrontation with some of the individuals she had employed to help with the registration process.

Following the disagreement, she left with the money, leaving residents shocked and determined to locate Elizabeth Akwah to recover their funds. Despite several attempts to reach her, she remains elusive.

“One of the workers she had employed suggested she left the money behind so they could continue with the registration the next day. She got angry and left. The residents went to her hotel room and found multiple receipts and documents that she had used to dupe people,” Kwame added.
