On the 3rd of June 2024, a shocking discovery was made at Merit Industrial Centre in To Kwa Wan, Hong Kong. The lifeless body of a 40-year-old man, identified as Mr. Wang, was found lying on a handcart at the entrance of the premises. Tragically, Mr. Wang was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Connection to Illegal Handling of Corpses

What adds a layer of complexity to this case is the connection between the deceased and three individuals who have been apprehended for suspected illegal handling of corpses. All parties involved are reported to be from mainland China and were known to each other.

Police Investigation

Police officers are actively investigating the incident at the industrial building. The specific unit where the deceased was found has been sealed off with a heavy chain. Inside, authorities discovered a significant amount of renovation tools and miscellaneous items. Local residents have raised concerns about the unit possibly being converted into cramped living quarters.

Arrested Individuals

The three individuals arrested in connection with the case are surnamed Xu (35), Wang (36), and Chen (51). They are currently in custody for investigation on charges of illegal handling of corpses. Reports indicate that they, along with the deceased, entered Hong Kong using double-entry permits and were acquainted with each other. Notably, Mr. Wang had consumed alcohol before his untimely death.

Discovery of the Body

At 3:35 pm on the day of the incident, a passerby alerted the police after spotting the lifeless body of a man on a handcart covered with a sheet at the entrance of the underground car park on 94 To Kwa Wan Road. The man appeared to be intoxicated. Despite efforts to revive him, Mr. Wang could not be saved. Investigations suggest that he collapsed in the unit and was later moved to the underground area by the arrested individuals.

Suspicions of Cramped Living Spaces

Residents in the area have noted frequent visits by mainland Chinese individuals to the unit in question. There are suspicions that the space may have been partitioned into cramped living quarters for residential purposes. The discovery of renovation tools and fans outside the unit has raised further questions about its use.

Background of Deceased and Arrested Individuals

Sources indicate that the deceased and the three arrested individuals are believed to be mainland Chinese illegal workers who entered Hong Kong on dual Exit-Entry Permits for family visits. Prior to the incident, they were seen drinking together before Mr. Wang collapsed. It is speculated that out of fear of exposure, the body was moved to the industrial building entrance.
