A motorist who was caught on camera attacking a police officer along Kamiti Road has been apprehended by authorities. The suspect, identified as Njoroge, was found hiding in a house in Jacaranda Estate as he sought assistance to relocate after learning he was being sought by the police.
Multiple Charges to be Faced
Vitalis Otieno, Nairobi’s head of traffic, has confirmed that the driver will be facing several charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the incident that occurred at Mirema Junction on Kamiti Road.
The altercation at Mirema Junction left the police officer, Corporal Jacob Ogendo, injured and in need of medical attention. Corporal Ogendo was managing traffic at the junction when he observed a vehicle making an illegal U-turn, causing a disturbance. Approaching the vehicle, he instructed the driver to proceed to the police station after it had hit a kerb and become stuck.
However, the situation took a violent turn when the driver produced a sword from under the seat and attacked Corporal Ogendo. In the scuffle that ensued, the officer fell into a trench, and the assailant managed to snatch his police pocket phone battery before fleeing the scene.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident came to Corporal Ogendo’s aid and provided initial medical assistance at Crestview Mother and Child Wellness Centre in Kasarani. Due to the severity of his injuries, the officer was later transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.
The driver involved in the assault has been apprehended, along with an accomplice named Peter Kiragu, and will be facing legal consequences for their actions.
