Jordyan A. Alia : “18-Year-Old Court Appearance for Child Shooting Death, Shooter On the Run”

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Kenosha last Monday, May 27, 2024, when a 16-year-old child visiting from out of town lost his life inside a home in the 4800 block of 36th Ave. Police and rescue personnel responded to a call just after 8:00 p.m. for a male with a gunshot wound, but unfortunately, life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. Detectives and the medical examiner were summoned to the scene to investigate the tragic event.

The following day, on May 28, 2024, two Kenosha Police officers stood guard over the home, securing the crime scene. Limited information was available until a bail hearing on Friday shed light on the situation. Jordyan A. Alia, an 18-year-old from Kenosha, appeared in court on Friday, May 31, 2024, for bail purposes only as no formal charges had been filed against him at that time.

During the court proceedings on Friday, Kenosha Prosecutor Carli McNeill provided insight into the events that transpired on the fateful Monday. McNeill requested an extension until Tuesday, June 4, 2024, to file a criminal complaint against Alia, indicating that the anticipated charge was “Harboring or Aiding a Felon.” Although the Kenosha County Sheriff’s jail roster initially listed Alia as being held for “Homicide by Negligent Handling of a Dangerous Weapon,” the actual charge was yet to be officially issued by the DA’s office.

McNeill revealed that the individual responsible for the fatal shot was identified as David Chism, a Kenosha man with a history of multiple felony convictions who was already wanted at the time of the incident. Chism, aged 18, had a previous conviction as a juvenile for a felony gun-related offense.

Chism’s criminal record also included charges of armed robbery, with a warrant issued for his arrest in connection to an incident that occurred on January 19, 2024. The prosecutor indicated that Chism was a fugitive and urged the public to contact the authorities if they had any information regarding his whereabouts.
