A teenage boy is currently in custody following a tragic incident at a sleepover in Wildwood, Florida. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the boy stabbed another teen to death and wounded an adult during the ambush.
The harrowing attack took place at a residence in Wildwood late in the evening on Saturday. Deputies responded to the scene and discovered that a 15-year-old boy and an adult had sustained stab wounds.
The investigation revealed that the 15-year-old victim was hosting a sleepover when the suspect, identified as Alexander Warren Hernandez, 16, unexpectedly arrived at the residence and aggressively knocked on the door.
As the victim, Connor Michael Gill, went to open the door, Hernandez forced his way inside and fatally stabbed Gill. He then proceeded to threaten another individual before attacking an adult who intervened during the altercation.
Following the attack, Hernandez fled on foot but was swiftly apprehended with the assistance of a sheriff’s office helicopter. He was found in possession of the murder weapons at the time of his arrest.
Both victims of the stabbing were airlifted to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. Tragically, Gill succumbed to his injuries, while the adult victim remained hospitalized for further care.
Sumter County Undersheriff Pat Breeden confirmed that Hernandez was taken into custody and charged with premeditated first-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and armed burglary.
Authorities disclosed that both Hernandez and Gill had withdrawn from Sumter County Schools and were receiving homeschooling at the time of the incident.
During a press briefing, Undersheriff Breeden described the attack as premeditated and targeted. He revealed that Hernandez had ordered the murder weapons online and had them delivered before carrying out the fatal assault.
Undersheriff Breeden also stated that the motive behind the attack is still under investigation as authorities work to uncover the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
Additional charges against Hernandez are being considered as the investigation progresses. Undersheriff Breeden extended condolences to the families of the victims and emphasised the violent nature of the attack.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and the victims during this difficult time,” Undersheriff Breeden remarked.
