Accident – Death – Obituary News : The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) has officially named the officers involved in the tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including Officer Jamal Mitchell, in Minneapolis last week.

Sergeant Nick Kapinos, a seasoned law enforcement officer with a decade of experience, discharged his department-issued handgun during the incident. Additionally, Officer Luke Kittock, who has nine years of law enforcement experience, fired his department-issued rifle. Both officers are currently on critical incident leave as the investigation unfolds.

The individual responsible for the fatal shooting of Officer Jamal Mitchell has been identified as Mustafa Ahmed Mohamed, as confirmed by the BCA over the weekend.

According to the preliminary investigation, the incident unfolded when officers responded to a distress call at an apartment building on Blaisdell Avenue. Officer Mitchell arrived at the scene first and reported seeing two injured men in the street, later identified as Mohamed and a bystander who had also been shot.

Officer Mitchell approached Mohamed, who was seated near a parked vehicle, and offered assistance. Without warning, Mohamed drew a firearm and shot Officer Mitchell at close range. Mitchell succumbed to his injuries at the hospital following the attack.

As additional officers arrived on the scene, Mohamed continued to pose a threat by firing at law enforcement personnel. In response, Officers Kapinos and Kittock returned fire, fatally injuring Mohamed. Despite efforts to administer life-saving measures, Mohamed passed away from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.

During the exchange of gunfire, Officer Kittock sustained injuries but was successfully treated and discharged from the hospital. A Minneapolis firefighter also received treatment for injuries sustained during the incident and has since been released.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the individual found deceased inside the apartment building as 32-year-old Osman Said Jimale. The bystander who was shot remains in critical but stable condition at a local hospital, according to the BCA.

BCA investigators recovered a handgun with an extended magazine and multiple cartridge casings from the scene. The agency is currently reviewing all available body-worn and squad car camera footage related to the incident.

In addition to the primary investigation, the BCA is also looking into related shootings, including a separate homicide within the same apartment building at the request of the Minneapolis Police Department.

Further details will be disclosed as the investigation progresses. Upon completion, the BCA will present its findings to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office for review, without any specific charging recommendations at this stage.
