Sonamarg, June 02: A sudden glacier collapse at Thajwas Glacier in Sonamarg today triggered a dramatic rescue operation. The incident occurred as tourists were enjoying the picturesque views of the glacier when a section unexpectedly broke off, causing two tourists and a local guide to fall into a crevasse.

Swift Response by Locals and Authorities

Thanks to the quick response by locals and the Sonamarg Police, including the Tourist Police, the two tourists were promptly rescued and found to be safe and unharmed. However, the local guide remains missing, prompting an ongoing search and rescue operation. Additional resources have been mobilized by authorities to aid in the search for the missing individual, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Tragic Incident in Thune Area of Kangan

In a separate tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy tragically drowned in an irrigation canal in the Thune area of Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday. According to an official report, the boy accidentally slipped into the canal, leading to a rescue operation. Despite the efforts made, the boy was retrieved and rushed to SDH Kangan, where he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.

The young boy has been identified as Asif Ahmad Thekray, the son of Mumtaz Ahmad Thekray of Thune Kangan.
