Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a significant development, the Edo State Police Command has apprehended a 19-year-old suspect, Godstime Abhulime, in connection with the abduction of a four-year-old girl and the subsequent demand for a ransom of ₦300,000. The State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, confirmed the arrest.
The incident took place in Emaudo, Ekpoma, situated in the Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State. The young perpetrator, who is a relative of the victim, reportedly enticed the minor from her residence and transported her to an undisclosed location using a motorcycle.
A source close to the family, who chose to remain anonymous, disclosed that the girl was held captive for a duration of two days. During this period, an accomplice of the suspect, identified as Destiny or ‘Paulo’, made contact with the victim’s family and initially demanded a ransom of ₦7 million. Fearing for the safety of their child, the family promptly alerted the Ekpoma divisional police office.
After intense negotiations and out of concern for the well-being of the girl, the family agreed to pay ₦300,000 to secure her release. Subsequently, Godstime was taken into custody by the police. In his confession, the suspect revealed that the kidnapping was orchestrated to raise funds to settle debts owed to cult members who had issued threats against their lives.
Commissioner Adegboye emphasized that the suspect will be brought before the court in due course, highlighting the unwavering commitment of the Edo State Police to combat crime and safeguard the residents of the region.
