WILDWOOD, Fla. – A tragic incident unfolded in Wildwood on Saturday night, resulting in the death of a teenage boy and injury to a man following a stabbing, as reported by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
The authorities were alerted to the distressing situation in the 6000 block of CR 148 at approximately 10:11 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies found that a 15-year-old boy and an adult had been stabbed. It was revealed that the 15-year-old had been hosting a sleepover when a 16-year-old suspect, who had not been invited, showed up unannounced and aggressively knocked on the door.
After the 15-year-old opened the door, the suspect entered the premises. Subsequently, the suspect proceeded to stab the 15-year-old and threaten another individual present at the gathering. Upon hearing the commotion, a man intervened and was also stabbed by the assailant.
Emergency services were quick to respond, providing assistance to the victims before airlifting them to nearby hospitals for treatment. Tragically, the 15-year-old succumbed to his injuries at 1:19 a.m., while the adult victim continues to receive medical care for his wounds.
The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended with the assistance of the sheriff’s office helicopter. He has since been taken into custody and charged with premeditated first‐degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and armed burglary.
Investigations revealed that both the deceased victim and the suspect were acquainted and were undergoing homeschooling after being withdrawn from Sumter County Schools.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the case remains under active investigation, with additional charges against the suspect currently being considered.
