Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A 61-year-old man remains missing after a tragic incident on the Colorado River in Grand County. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office received a distressing 911 text at 3:40 p.m. on Saturday, reporting a person in the river in urgent need of assistance. The situation was further exacerbated by reports from a Garmin device indicating a rafting accident had occurred.

Multiple emergency response agencies from Grand and Eagle counties swiftly mobilised to the Yarmony Rapids area, where they found a bystander attempting to administer CPR to the victim. Despite valiant efforts, the man, identified only as a 56-year-old from Denver, tragically succumbed to the incident.

In the aftermath, it was discovered that two other individuals were in the raft when it overturned. While one man managed to swim to safety, the whereabouts of the other remained unknown.

Emergency responders deployed a variety of resources, including additional rafts, ground crews, Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and a Union Pacific Railroad Hi-Rail, in a comprehensive search effort. Regrettably, the missing man, also from the Denver metro area, could not be located.

The Bureau of Land Management’s river rangers have taken up the mantle of continuing the search on Sunday, with a plea for anyone in the vicinity to report any sightings or information to aid in the operation.

It is crucial to note that neither the deceased individual nor the missing man were wearing life jackets at the time of the raft overturning. Authorities are urging all rafters in the area to exercise utmost caution and promptly contact emergency services with any relevant details.
