CHENNAI: A 33-year-old man working at an IT company in Thiruvanmiyur has been arrested under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) act for the alleged sexual assault of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in North Chennai.
The accused, identified as Vinoth Kumar, is said to have committed the heinous act at his home, where the victim, a neighbour’s daughter, was left in his care by her parents who had to leave for work.
Concern arose when the child complained of stomach pain to her mother on Saturday, prompting an investigation by the parents. Upon learning of the neighbour’s behaviour, a complaint was filed with the Thiruvottiyur All Women Police Station (AWPS), leading to Vinoth’s arrest on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Mohammed Ali, a small-time film producer aged 33, was apprehended by the Ambattur AWPS for allegedly sexually abusing one of his female staff members.
The accused deceived the 28-year-old woman by concealing his marital status, subsequently exploiting her under false pretences of a romantic relationship. Additionally, he coerced her into taking abortion pills under the guise of health supplements to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.
Both suspects were presented before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
