In the quiet village of Barseni in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, a horrifying incident of rape and deception has come to light. Kamla Devi, a 60-year-old resident, was startled one midnight when she heard a young girl crying for help near her home. The girl, identified as Hema, 21, had been brutally assaulted and raped after being lured by a man posing as a woman professor offering a scholarship.

Hema had walked over 10 km off the road from her village of Madwas, where she had fallen victim to a sinister scheme orchestrated by Brajesh Prajapati, a 30-year-old labourer. Brajesh, along with his accomplices Sandeep Prajapati, Rahul Prajapati, and Luvkush Prajapati, had deceived multiple women and girls using voice-changing mobile applications, leading to a series of rapes and assaults.

The survivors bravely came forward and filed police complaints, resulting in the arrest of the prime accused and his associates. The police have initiated legal action under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, highlighting the severity of the crimes committed.

The modus operandi of the perpetrators involved posing as female professors to lure unsuspecting victims, leading them to secluded locations where the heinous acts were perpetrated. The survivors’ accounts paint a harrowing picture of the trauma they endured at the hands of these predators.

The police investigation, led by Sub-Divisional Police Officer Roshni Singh Thakur, revealed the extent of Brajesh’s deception and manipulation of vulnerable women. Through meticulous tracking of phone records and victim testimonies, the authorities were able to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

The personal history of Brajesh sheds light on his troubled past and motives for committing such atrocious crimes. His turbulent relationships and quest for revenge against a tribal community highlight the complexity of the psychological factors driving his actions.

The survivors, hailing from impoverished backgrounds in a region with a significant tribal population, underscore the vulnerability of marginalized communities to exploitation and abuse. The lack of basic amenities and economic hardships make them easy targets for predators seeking to prey on their desperation.

As the case unfolds, it serves as a grim reminder of the pervasive issue of sexual violence and exploitation in rural India. The survivors’ courage in speaking out and seeking justice is a testament to their resilience in the face of adversity.

The authorities’ swift action in apprehending the perpetrators and initiating legal proceedings sends a strong message that such heinous crimes will not go unpunished. It is imperative that society works towards creating a safe and secure environment for all individuals, especially the most vulnerable among us..
