CAMERON COUNTY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred in the early hours of the morning.

The incident took place at approximately 12:30 a.m. on FM 802, located west of Vermillion Avenue, to the north of Brownsville. According to a news release from Texas DPS, the details of the crash are still being examined.

Initial reports suggest that a Toyota Tacoma, with a driver behind the wheel, was travelling westbound on FM 802 at the time of the collision. Meanwhile, a man was reportedly attempting to cross the road in a northbound direction in an area that was not designated for pedestrian crossing, when he was struck by the Toyota.

Following the accident, the driver of the Toyota immediately stopped to assist the pedestrian and promptly called emergency services for help. Tragically, the pedestrian, identified as 31-year-old Grabriel Arenas Ibarra, did not survive the impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is still ongoing, as authorities work to gather more information and determine the cause of the tragic incident.
