FINKSBURG, MD — Tragedy struck in Carroll County last night as a fatal accident claimed the life of a local man. Maryland State Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, which involved a 2022 Ford Explorer.

The driver, identified as 41-year-old Geoffrey Brittingham of Hampstead, tragically lost his life in the collision. Emergency medical services personnel pronounced Brittingham dead at the scene. The accident occurred just before 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of Emory Road and Cedarhurst Road in Finksburg.

Initial reports indicate that Brittingham failed to adhere to a closed construction zone at the North Branch Patapsco River bridge replacement project, resulting in a collision with the rear of a 2014 Volvo Excavator and a nearby Mack Dump Truck. It is important to note that the construction zone was inactive at the time of the tragic crash.

Authorities have confirmed that there were no other injuries reported in connection with the accident. However, they have advised motorists that the MD 91 bridge will remain closed for an extended period. To navigate around the closure, drivers are encouraged to use detour routes via MD 30 and MD 140.
