Over the weekend, a leisurely picnic at the TMEC Recreation Centre in Ulu Kimanis, Papar took a dangerous turn when a teenager found himself in a life-threatening situation. The 18-year-old boy, identified as Muhamad Haiqal Irwan, was swept away by strong currents while swimming at the popular recreational spot.

Fortunately, quick-thinking members of the public sprang into action to rescue the teenager from the perilous waters. Emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered to Muhamad Haiqal Irwan before professional help arrived on the scene.

Swift response from Kimanis Fire and Rescue Services

Upon receiving a distress call at 11.38am on Sunday (June 2), the Kimanis Fire and Rescue Services station chief, Johainin Ruslam, promptly dispatched a team of seven men to the location. The team covered the 18km distance in record time, reaching the scene at 12.02pm to find the victim unconscious.

Medical assistants immediately took over the CPR efforts, working tirelessly to revive the teenager. Muhamad Haiqal Irwan showed positive signs of recovery and was swiftly transported to the Papar district hospital for further medical attention.

Successful rescue operation

The rescue operation concluded at 1.30pm, with the team conducting a thorough inspection of the area to ensure no further hazards were present. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the rescue team and the public, a potentially tragic incident was averted, and Muhamad Haiqal Irwan is now on the path to recovery.
