In a heartbreaking turn of events, the lifeless body of Vincent Tiong Meng Wei, a 13-year-old boy, was discovered this morning in Sungai Lemujan near Rh Thomas Liman Lempa Ampu, Jalan Wak Pakan in Bintangor.
The tragic incident occurred yesterday around 11 am when Vincent fell into the river, located just 200 feet from the longhouse where he lived with his family. The boy’s family heard his screams coming from the direction of the river and immediately rushed to the scene.
Despite their efforts to locate Vincent, all they found were his slippers drifting not far from where he was last seen. The family quickly alerted the authorities, prompting a swift response from Bintangor firefighters, police, and the Civil Defence Force (APM).
After an extensive search and rescue operation, members of the public made the grim discovery of Vincent’s body at 8.40 am, approximately 50 metres downstream from the spot where he disappeared. His body was then handed over to the police for further investigation and to be taken to the hospital.
Search and Rescue Operation Concludes
Following the recovery of Vincent’s body, the search and rescue (SAR) operation officially came to an end at 8.50 am. The community in Bintangor is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the young boy and offers their condolences to his grieving family.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety, especially during the rainy season when water levels in rivers can rise rapidly. Authorities urge parents to educate their children about the dangers of playing near water bodies and to always supervise them closely to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring.
