Darren Jeffcoat : “Smyrna Man Arrested for DUI and Weapons Charges”

A Smyrna man was taken into custody by Dewey Beach Police after being caught driving under the influence and in possession of weapons. The incident occurred in the early hours of June 1st when officers spotted a black car heading south on Coastal Highway without its headlights on.

Upon initiating a traffic stop, the driver was identified as 31-year-old Darren Jeffcoat. It was revealed during the investigation that Jeffcoat did not have a valid driver’s license and had three outstanding warrants for traffic violations.

Further inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery of a 9mm gun with a fully loaded magazine and one round chambered, along with a small quantity of marijuana. Subsequent investigations revealed that Jeffcoat was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Jeffcoat was taken to the Dewey Beach Police Department for processing, where a blood sample was obtained under a search warrant issued by the Justice of the Peace Court #7. He now faces multiple charges, including two counts of possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, third offense felony DUI, possession of a firearm while under the influence, and failure to use headlights when required.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible and lawful behaviour on the roads, as well as the consequences of driving under the influence and possessing illegal weapons.
