Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal car crash on Interstate 195 in Somerset as Michael Resendes Jr., a 26-year-old resident of Fall River.
The tragic incident occurred on the westbound side of I-195 in Somerset at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Massachusetts State Police released a statement confirming the details of the crash.
According to preliminary investigations, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado was travelling westbound on I-195 near exit 10B when it veered off the road and collided with a group of trees. The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Tragically, Michael Resendes Jr., who was behind the wheel of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by state police officers.
In the aftermath of the crash, the right travel lane of the highway had to be closed to facilitate the investigation and clean-up process, as noted by state police.
The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, with state police being assisted by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Somerset EMS, and the Somerset Fire Department.
